For the home fashion lovers I bet this tip will make their day better. When you put your books on shelves sometimes the shelves looks ugly or you simply don’t want to be seen.

With this idea you can built them ‘without being’ there practically. No more words, just watch the video.

He’s a hottie! Want to see more of that cute guy showing me how to do stuff!

  2. 2 jared

    simply brilliant!

  3. 3 sweet.ro

Nice one. But the L bracket could be a little bit smaller. Or maybe use 2 small brackets?

  4. 4 TheGabe

That’s a really cool idea, although I would have used two brackets myself.

  5. 5 Anonymous

    What the fuck, Angie?

  6. 6 ovlet

nice idea, but should have used two brackets, and wall plugs. did you see the screws continue to rotate when already tightened all the way into the wall? that thing will fall out in an instant, and leave some lovely plaster craters.

  7. 7 sirk

Um those screws are known as countersunk head screws. Don’t think I will be following the instructions of a guy who doesn’t know what screws are what.

  8. 8 Ken

Did you notice that one of the books was called the zombies survival guide? Nerdy much?

  9. 9 Jill

Actually, he is not cute in the least.

  10. 10 jack

Hey who cares about how cute or not cute the guy was when there’s a much more important thing to be pissed about. Like how its NOT REALLY AN INVISIBLE BOOKSHELF. Its just a shelf that looks like a book!!! OMG I feel sooooooooooo let down right now.

  11. 11 anon1696

    i’d use a bible

  12. 12 Willie

You say flathead, but those screws are phillips.

    Cool idea, though.

  13. 13 nononsense789

I bought invisible shelves at The Container Store for about $7 a piece. They hold more weight and you don’t have to destroy any books either.

  14. 14 Tiff

    yeah he wasn’t cute :-/

  15. 15 ZeroEffect

Freagnin women. He’s cute!… No he’s not…. Yes, he’s cute. No. Miss the point much?

  16. 16 walt

They were flathead screws. They are also Phillips head.

  17. 17 Brit

    Seriously, he was hot.

  18. 18 robert pitt

thanks a mill thats a great idea(cool nice work)

  19. 19 interesting

while it is an interestin’ concept. i’d probably use two l brackets. that book woulda pulled that lone bracket out in a couple of days. xD

  20. 20 Jen Fox

Awesome idea! I can’t wait to try it. Video was very helpful and it was really cute too. Thanks!

  21. 21 Anonymous

Whoever thinks the Zombie Survival Guide was nerdy is missing the point.

It’s freaking awesome, and will save you when a solanum breakout is too much to be contained.

  22. 22 showing some love...

    love this video

  23. 23 thefish

    clever

  24. 24 Paganpope

The problem with using two brackets is that you have to screw them into the stud in the wall. so unless you set the brackets REALLREALLREALLY close its not really feasible. Unless you have the worlds longest book…

  25. 25 Another Girl

He was too cute. We’re not missing the point, we’re just enjoying the side show.

  26. 26 Bobra

All of you who say we’re missing the point are missing the point. Yeesh.

  28. 28 yet another girl

was a great idea and may try it with one of my old school books.

oh and, he was very cute.

  29. 29 nexy

The Zombie book was placed in there entirely to be cheezy.. duh? what the video.. the .. “cheezy” humor in it matches.. as well as the dress-wear ect.. It was meant to be silly and geeky.. A bookself made from a book is a bit geeky as well.. Duh?

  30. 30 Internet tough guy

IM IN UR BLOG, POSTIN’ MAH ‘PINIONS! THEY R BETTR THN URS KTHX!

Seriously, people - go to myspace or 4chan if you want to buitch and moan and piss on other people’s parades all damn day. The rest of us are here to have fun, and think you’re a bunch of 12-year-olds desperate to sit at the Big Kids’ table at the next family get-together.

Back on topic, cool idea - anyone got an idea what kind of weight the original book can be, and/or whether there’s a correlation between that and the weight that the shelf can hold?

  31. 31 Internet tough guy

(and by “buitch”, of course, i mean “bitch”, in the “it’s a verb” sense. I type the good englishes.)

  32. 32 Internet tough guy

HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS

  33. 33 Hunter

He couldn’t use 2 smaller brackets because the studs wouldn’t be close enough.

  34. 34 Douchebag

If hes so hot than why doesn’t anyone use the stud finder to see if he actually is

  35. 35 Adich

To everyone who has said (use “2 brackets” or “I would have used plugs”)

Firstly as Hunter said it wouldnt do any good to use to brackets cause the studs wouldnt be close enough.

Secondly the wallplugs wont help when it is tree he is screwing (into) you dumbass.

Nice one, just hope that my girlfriend will approve of this idea ^^ Gonna make shelves for all my books ^^ Plus my donald duck comics :P

  36. 36 He's a smelly, hairy hippy.

    1) Screwing the screws into the pages? Bad idea. THis thing is a joke and is very unstable. Try it, but just don’t put it over your head where you sleep, unless going to work with black eyes and a broken nose ala Fight Club is your thing.

    2) This is ghetto. Seriously, step up from white trash and at least go to IKEA and drop $10 on cheap Swedish furniture. That’s at least a step up from drilling holes in books and your walls for an unstable bookshelf that can hold only about four books safely.

    3) I’d like to meet the women who think he’s cute… apparelty if this stoner has a chance, anyone does.

    4 Happy Festivus!

  37. 37 a sane girl

good lord ladies….not get laid much? He looks like he needs a bath… I’m wondering is there anyone who knows whether this will work for sure…I’d love to try it, it doesn’t seem that it would work that well, or be all that stable.

  38. 38 George

    a sane girl,

The bracket has 2 legs: 1 that screws to the wall (vertical leg), 1 that screws to the book (horizontal leg).

Use two 2″ or longer screws in the vertical leg and space them at least 3 inches apart and sink them into a wall stud instead of just the plaster or wallboard. If you use just 1 screw then the shelf will rotate about that screw if the weight is not centered.

The second concern is that the joint between the horizontal leg and the book is very weak. If the weight is not centered then the screws sunk into the paper will pull out and the book will detach from the horizontal leg. I made a bracket with a vertical leg as shown in the video and a horizontal leg 4″ X 6″. I used a book about the size of the book in the video. I put a 35 pound weight on one end of the book and it didn’t bend at all.

The alternative is to use 2 brackets but the wall studs will be too far apart for most books. You would have to use plugs or a gyprock screw or some other special attachment. But it won’t be nearly as strong as if you screw the vertical leg into a wall stud.

  39. 39 Nick Parente

Zombie Survival Guide is the sweetest book ever.
Read it before you judge it.

    cool idea.

  40. 40 aud

    i thought he was cute…

  41. 41 Angelo

Just finished mine and i used 3 l brackets so it is really sturdy, used an old encyclopedia(really thick

  42. 42 Sj

Yep, he’s cute. I love how jealous guys become such haters. LOL And the shelf thing is cool too. ;-)

  43. 43 girlie

I think it’s a cute idea… I’m not sure it would fit in a lot of decorating ideas, but I would like to use it in an office or something, although if you ever read and take the books off then you would see the brackets and that would be trashy.

oh and the guys cute, but he had to take a nap after step 4… so that says lazy… blah

  44. 44 Angry Roy

IF THE ONE THING YOU TAKE FROM AN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO IS THAT THE PERSON DOING THE INSTRUCTING WAS “CUTE”, YOU NEED TO TAKE A LONG WALK OFF A SHORT PIER.

this is rad, though. would probably trip me out if i was high.

  45. 45 Alex at Net-Entrepreneur.com

    Great idea.
Several books in a row would make a longer shelf!

    Cheers,
    Alex

  46. 46 bw

    pure genius!

  47. 47 Endee

It’s true that you never, EVER, hear guys talking about whether a woman is hot or not on the internet, especially when it’s not relevant to what they’re looking at … what IS it with women today?

  48. 48 Kwatery Zakopane

    Cool idea!

  49. 49 Faytality

lol ima add some changes and use my hollow book i made so i have a candy stash shelf hehehe. oh and Endee i completely agree its not a discusion on how hot a guy is its invisible book shelves goto a porn forum if you wanna do that

  50. 50 anonymous

If you want an invisible shelf, the closest you could get is to use fishing line as the shelf and it would work best in a low lighting area.

  51. 51 That Girl

The shelf kinda rocks. And if you’re worried about seeing the bracket then just paint it to match your wall colour. You’d still see it but not as much.

And the guy IS cute. Doesn’t mean we don’t get laid, just means we have good taste.

  52. 52 Steve

That guy made me hard too…

  53. 53 Endee

OMG look up IRONY in the dictionary!

  54. 54 mtupyro

Awesome idea and very nicely explained.

For the record, the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks is an incredibly awesome book. I have both that and World War Z: An Oral History of The Zombie War.

  55. 55 Blondie

Umm, for the amount of money spent on drill, screws, and a stud finder, you can just go to Ikea and get some cheap shelves that will look much nicer and take alot less work.

  56. 56 hardware expert

The screws used in the video ARE flathead screws. Flathead screws are available in phillips or slotted/standard, as well as other patterns. The holes in the bracket would be considered countersunk, since the holes are beveled to accommodate a flathead screw.

Nice one. But the L bracket could be a little bit smaller. Or maybe use 2 small brackets?
    ——————————-

I saw it done on a home improvement show on TV a couple of weeks ago with 2 brackets. I think 2 brackets would give it more strength.

  58. 58 eli

    its abeauti man. cool

  59. 59 yet another

    Of course he’s cute.

Not in a date-him-and-want-a-future way, but he’s imaginative, good looking and funny (ish).

    See what I’m saying?

It’s a book shelf made out of a book, yay.

  60. 60 MikeGras

“You’re right, no human being would stack books like this. ….. “Dr. Peter Venkman:

    But I like it!

  61. 61 Julianna

How creative. I’d so do it if I had a book I was willing to destroy.

    also, Faytality,
    you are a dumbass.

    the end.

  62. 62 jakatron3000

Fuckin’ brilliant! I am doing this.

  63. 63 Julie

Amazing….pretty brilliant and creative. Definitely a Thumbs Up on SU.

  64. 64 Paul

I think hardware man likes Phillip’s head and screw. The flat head is so you’ve got somewhere to set your drink.

  65. 65 mermaid tina

truly fun and i love other people’s input on how to improve on it - very good

  66. 66 lulzinator

THERE ARE NO GIRLS ON TEH INTERWEBS N00BS!

On a side note this is a sweet idea. the idea of the self being invisible is that you don’t see a piece of wood hold up you books. You people are to literal.

  67. 67 Perris is Kewl

The Zombie Survival Guide is awesome. World War Z is even better. I heard they are going to make a movie! Delicious isn’t it!? About the shelves…no matter what book you use….its still painful to watch a book being destroyed…except when its ripped in half…then its just kewl. Cool idea…for lil kids!!! bwahahahaha!

  71. 71 Seeping Booty

OMG! I used a library book instead! I hope they don’t notice the bracket when I return it… : (

  72. 72 GirlArchitectInTraining

    1. He’s not bad. Too skinny for me though.
    2. The Zombie Survival Guide is wicked… Ever hear of HAVING A SENSE OF HUMOR?
    3. Cute idea. I wonder if I could woodwork a book and put a book cover on it? Hmmm must try. Thanks for the idea.

    Keep up the good work.

  74. 74 Priscilla

    Keep up the good work.

  75. 75 Katzilla

They actually sell something similar at Barnes & Noble which doesn’t require hurting a book. Then again, we’re all trying to save money, this way seems much cheaper. The one at B&N was $17.99 me thinks.
